Rising Star Satellite Symposium

12 - 13 June, 2021, Manchester

Scope

We welcome early career researchers working in the field of molecular magnetism to take part in the Rising Star Satellite Symposium of ICMM2021. This satellite meeting is a Manchester-based pre-conference event that will start on the morning of the 12th June and will continue for most of the 13th June before ICMM2021 commences that afternoon.

The focus of this meeting is to provide opportunities for early career researchers to present their research and to network with their peers that are all rising stars in the broad fields of molecular magnetism and functional molecular materials and devices. Whilst the broad themes of this symposium are in the synthesis, characterisation and calculations of magnetic materials and molecular magnets, we welcome scientists from the wider community to take part, as for example from areas that regard electronic devices, electronic conductors, ionic conductors, surface science, supramolecular self-assembly, MOFs and synergistic materials.

This workshop will consist of invited talks and poster presentations from early career researchers. The invited talks will be selected from the abstracts submitted to the main ICMM2021 conference for attendees that opt to take part in the Rising Star Symposium during registration.

The attendance fee is £50 (or £100 for all three satellite conferences, see Registrations Fees) and will include refreshments and lunches on the 12th and 13th June. We look forward to welcoming you all to Manchester for this satellite meeting and the main ICMM2021!

How to Participate

Oral Presentations

We will select oral presentations from the abstracts submitted by early career researchers to the main ICMM2021 conference. During registration for ICMM2021 please select the option for consideration in the Rising Stars Symposium and upload a CV/resume together with a list of publications. We will make selections based on scientific excellence, and will include a diverse selection of speakers to represent the international magnetism community. For the purposes of this meeting, our definition of early career researchers include postdoctoral researchers, fellowship holders and newly appointed academic staff (< 5 years since commencement of permanent post); allowances will be made for career breaks if these are communicated to the organising committee. We particularly welcome applications for oral presentations from female scientists, ethnic minorities and other under-represented groups as we strive to showcase diversity in the magnetism community. We will inform attendees about whether or not they have been awarded an oral presentation after the ICMM registration deadline. Those that do not get oral presentations will be offered the opportunity to give a poster presentation at the Rising Stars Symposium.

Registration

We welcome all early career researchers and postgraduate students that are attending ICMM2021 to attend this meeting. Please indicate your intention to attend this satellite meeting during the registration process for ICMM2021, and whether you would like to present an oral or poster presentation, or to attend as a general participant. Please make sure that you provide a CV/resume and list of publications for consideration for an oral or poster presentation.

Programme

The symposium will commence at 9 am on Saturday 12th June and will continue until 4 pm on Sunday the 13th June, shortly before ICMM2021 starts. At close of play on the 13th June around 6 pm we invite you to join us for social activities and networking.

Venue

The symposium will be held in the Roscoe Building, which is located in Brunswick Park on the South Campus of The University of Manchester, near the main ICMM conference venue. There will be signs close to the venue, but the building is also clearly marked on campus maps in the area.

Transport and Accommodation

Manchester is well-connected by train, plane and road, and has a wide range of accommodation options. Please see the main ICMM site for further details.
