Facility Science Satellite Symposium

11 - 12 June 2021, Oxfordshire

Scope

Large scale facility science for molecular magnetism includes the use of neutrons, X-rays, muons and high magnetic fields to study electronic structure, bonding and dynamics to a detail that is not possible within a regular lab. It is no surprise that some of the most important advances within molecular magnetism have been supported by large scale facility measurements. The focus of this meeting is to bring together experts to present and discuss their research performed at synchrotrons, neutron/muon facilities and other national and international user labs. Equally this workshop is a perfect opportunity to learn about the range of techniques available for solving problems that are otherwise inaccessible by routine methods. This meeting will be hosted near the Harwell Campus in Abingdon Oxfordshire, home of the UK’s neutron, muon, X-ray synchrotron and central laser facilities.

The attendance fee is £50 and this will include lunch and dinner on the 12th of June and coffee breaks throughout the meeting. During the meeting the participants will have the opportunity to visit the Harwell Campus, with organized tours of ISIS Neutron and Muon Spallation source and of Diamond Light source. We look forward to welcoming you all to this satellite meeting in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

How to Participate

This workshop will consist of invited and contributed talks, and a poster session. Contributed talks will be selected from the abstracts submitted to the main ICMM2021 conference for attendees that opt to take part in the Facility Science Satellite Meeting. We particularly welcome applications for oral presentations from female scientists, ethnic minorities and other under-represented groups as we strive to showcase diversity in the magnetism community. We will inform attendees about whether or not they have been awarded an oral presentation after the ICMM registration deadline. Those that do not get oral presentations will be offered the opportunity to give a poster presentation held on the evening of the 11th of June.

Programme

The workshop will commence at 9 am on the 11th of June and will continue until midday on the 13th of June.

Venue

The workshop will be located in Abingdon, the grounds of the medieval Abby of Abingdon at Cosener’s House (https://www.thecosenershouse.co.uk/).

Transport and Accommodation

The workshop is around 7 miles from Didcot Parkway Station, most easily accessed by rail from London (1 hr) or Oxford (20 min). Access from Manchester is also possible by rail (3 hr 30 min). Accommodation will be hosted within at Cosener’s house (not included in the registration fee).
